Commissioners Court Approves 2026 Budget

Post Date:09/30/2025 10:38 AM

The Brazoria County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to approve the County’s 2026 budget, which reflects a continued commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and meeting the needs of a rapidly growing County.

The 2026 budget was developed over several months of planning, workshops, and public hearings, shaping the County’s financial priorities.

Key highlights of the 2026 Budget include:

  • Tax Rate: The 2026 tax rate is set at the No New Revenue Rate of $0.304758 per $100 valuation. Over the past 11 years, Commissioners Court has lowered the tax rate by 39%, providing long-term relief to taxpayers.
  • Employee Compensation: To support and retain the County’s workforce, the budget includes a 5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) and step increases for eligible employees. Additionally, market salary adjustments were implemented across departments based on a comprehensive salary survey completed earlier this year.
  • New Positions: The budget funds 51 new positions, including 10 tied to a new District Court assigned by the State of Texas effective September 1, 2025. A majority of the new positions will strengthen law enforcement and public safety services for the County.
  • Capital Expenditures: Strategic investments include road improvements, new vehicles and equipment, and the restoration of the Stephen F. Austin statue along Highway 288, which sustained damage during Hurricane Beryl. These investments ensure the County’s infrastructure remains reliable and resilient as the population continues to grow.

The approved budget highlights Brazoria County’s strong financial management and proactive approach to planning for the future. By balancing essential services, employee support, and infrastructure investments, Commissioners Court is ensuring residents benefit from a responsive and efficient government.

“Brazoria County remains dedicated to thoughtful fiscal management while investing in the people, services, and infrastructure that make our county strong,” said County Judge Matt Sebesta. “This budget reflects our priority of meeting today’s needs while preparing for tomorrow’s growth.”
