Buffalo Division in Action: The Story of the 92nd Infantry Division in the World Wars Exhibit and Talk at Angleton Library

Post Date:01/15/2026 4:31 PM

The Angleton Library is hosting an exhibition on the Buffalo Soldiers 92nd Infantry Division from January 16th through February 23rd. On Monday, February 23rd at 6 p.m., guest speaker Cale Carter, Curator at the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum Center for African American Military History will present the history of the Buffalo Soldiers 92nd Infantry Division at the Angleton Library.

“The Buffalo Division in Action: The Story of the 92nd Infantry Division in the World Wars” examines the history, service, and legacy of the African American soldiers of the 92nd Infantry Division during World War I and World War II. Through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates military history, social history, and lived experience, the exhibition situates the division within the broader legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers and the Black American experience in the U.S. military.

The exhibition explores the impacts of segregation, military policy, and racial discrimination on training, leadership, combat deployment, and public perception, while also highlighting the division’s contributions, resilience, and service at home and abroad. Personal narratives, primary source materials, and community perspectives illuminate interactions between Black soldiers and civilian populations, both in the United States and overseas.

By connecting historical experiences to contemporary conversations about race, citizenship, and military service, the exhibition encourages critical reflection and dialogue, demonstrating how the legacy of the 92nd Infantry Division continues to influence American society today.

Mr. Carter has nearly ten years of experience in public history, dating back to when he volunteered at the BSNM as a teen. He attended Huston-Tillotson University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History. Carter was a Research Fellow in the Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Fellowship and a Living Historian with the Texas State Parks and Wildlife Buffalo Soldiers Heritage and Outreach Program. After graduating, he returned to his home state of South Carolina to work as a Research Intern for Columbia SC 63 and Curator of Exhibits for the South Carolina Military Museum. Currently, Cale is the Curator for the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum and was the lead in creating “The Blue Helmets in Action: The History of the 93rd Infantry Division in World War II” and “The Buffalo Division in Action: The Story of the 92nd Infantry Division in the World Wars”. He also worked on the historical curation and living history program and exhibition Terms and Conditions: The Promise vs Reality of Juneteenth.

The Angleton Library, a branch of the Brazoria County Library System, is located at 401 East Cedar St. This event is geared towards adults ages 19 and over.
