Post Date:01/15/2026 4:37 PM

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) presented Brazoria County with more than $43 million in Community Development Block Grant Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The funding will support mitigation projects aimed at reducing the risks and impacts of future natural disasters across Brazoria County.

Brazoria County Judge Matt Sebesta accepted the funds on behalf of Brazoria County and emphasized the long-term benefits these projects will bring to residents.

“These mitigation funds are an important investment in the safety and resilience of Brazoria County,” said County Judge Matt Sebesta. “By improving critical infrastructure like drainage, roadways, and water and sewer systems, we are strengthening our communities and helping protect families and businesses from the impacts of future disasters.”

Brazoria County will distribute a portion of the funding to local jurisdictions to support essential infrastructure improvements, primarily water and sewer system upgrades. The following jurisdictions will receive funding:

  • Danbury — $5.7 million for water and sewer improvements
  • Brazoria — $5.5 million for water and sewer improvements
  • Hillcrest Village — $1.85 million for water and sewer improvements
  • West Columbia — $2.7 million for a water plant project
  • Sweeny — $1.57 million for a water and sewer project
  • Damon — $1.4 million for a water plant project

The additional $21.5 million will be used by Brazoria County to improve roadways and drainage throughout the county, further strengthening infrastructure and enhancing flood mitigation efforts countywide.

In addition, two communities within Brazoria County received their own CDBG-MIT funding awards:

  • City of Clute — $1.2 million for inline detention improvements
  • Town of Holiday Lakes — $1.58 million for drainage improvements

These mitigation projects will help create a more resilient Brazoria County by strengthening critical infrastructure and ensuring communities are better prepared for future severe weather events and other natural disasters.
