Commissioner Ryan Cade and Brazoria County Commissioners Court Secure Over $5 Million in CDBG Funding for Danbury Water and Wastewater Improvements

Commissioner Ryan Cade and Brazoria County Commissioners Court are proud to announce that the City of Danbury has been awarded more than $5 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to support critical upgrades to its water and wastewater infrastructure.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program was established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide federal funding to communities for projects that improve housing, expand economic opportunities, and strengthen public infrastructure. Through this program, Brazoria County was able to partner with the Texas General Land Office (GLO) to direct mitigation funds toward long-needed improvements in Danbury.

When funding became available, Commissioner Cade and the Court moved quickly to advocate for Danbury’s inclusion.

Cade said, “When this money came available through CDBG, I immediately thought of Danbury and went to work on making this opportunity a reality for them. I think this will be a game changer for the citizens of Danbury and am happy that I was part of helping them obtain over $5M in an effort to solve a problem they have faced with their water and wastewater plant for quite some time.”

The $5.8 million investment will fund substantial improvements to both water and sanitary sewer systems within the city.

Danbury Mayor Suzanne Powell expressed her appreciation for the partnership and support saying, “The City of Danbury is very excited to begin improvements for our wastewater and drinking water system with funding from Brazoria County CDBG and GLO funding. Danbury is receiving $5.8 million for these improvements, and I am very excited that I played a part in this process for the Danbury community. Commissioner Cade along with Commissioners Court clearly understood that Danbury needed these improvements.”

According to Brazoria County Engineer, Matt Hanks, the scope of the project is comprehensive and impactful.

“The Danbury projects include improvements to both the water and wastewater systems within Danbury. The water plants are getting upgraded as part of the improvements to the water system. Lift stations rehabilitations, pipe rehab and new service lines are the major part of the sanitary sewer upgrades. In total, Danbury will be getting over $5M in water and sanitary sewer improvements. The projects are moving into the design phase in the near future. All this work is utilizing CDBG-Mitigation funds through the Texas General Land Office.”

The projects are expected to enter the design phase soon, with construction to follow. Once complete, these improvements will enhance system reliability, increase resilience, and ensure safer, more dependable water and wastewater services for Danbury residents.

Commissioner Cade reaffirmed the County's commitment to supporting infrastructure improvements across Brazoria County and ensuring local communities have access to the resources they need to grow and thrive.
