Hanson Riverside County Park is a 75-acre wooded day-use park along the San Bernard River, and features a large covered pavilion with water and electricity, and one large new pavilion with benches and tables; both are available for rent. The park also offers picnic tables and grills, a wetland observation and bird viewing area, playground, fishing pier, boat ramp and courtesy dock, crushed-granite-surfaced trail system with footbridges, paved parking areas, and restrooms. Once the site of a ferry landing, Hanson's natural attractions include native hardwood trees, bird watching, nature viewing, and fishing.

Harris-Beal Park Unit is a new addition to the park, made possible by a partnership with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, where an additional 480-plus acres of public access land have been added. This new section features miles of multi-use hike and bike trails, five primitive tent campsites, a park office and check-in area, and a backcountry region for future development. Hanson Riverside and Harris-Beal connect via a northern and southern trail route, which if hiked or biked together, make for hours of enjoyment along well-maintained and marked trails through some of the region’s most scenic landscapes.

Both Hanson Riverside and Harris-Beal Parks preserve some of the area’s most notable riparian and bottomland hardwood forests, the Columbia Bottomlands, nestled along the shores and floodplains of the San Bernard River. The entire Hanson Harris-Beal Park complex is located on SH 35 between West Columbia and Sweeny.

Note: The trails are open, but are still under construction. No motor vehicle or equestrian use is allowed. For a more in-depth look at the trails, click here.
